LOS ANGELES - Michael Jackson, defined in equal parts as the world’s greatest entertainer and perhaps its most enigmatic figure, was about to attempt one of the greatest comebacks of all time. Then his life was cut shockingly — and so far, mysteriously — short.
The 50-year-old musical superstar died Thursday, just as he was preparing for what would be a series of 50 concerts starting July 13 at London’s famed 02 arena. Jackson had been spending hours and hours toiling with a team of dancers for a performance he and his fans hoped would restore his tarnished legacy to its proper place in pop.

Just call him the hardest working artiste in showbiz today. Singjay Mr. Vegas, whose I Am Blessed single is still #1 on several local reggae-dancehall charts, is booked solid for a blitz of overseas shows over the next couple of weeks as the summer kicks into high gear.
Recently, Vegas performed at the Club Alive in North Carolina, USA on June 5th and at the Canal Club in Richmond, Virginia on June 7th, and he is already in the Big Apple to perform at the Nazareth Hall, Brooklyn, NY this weekend on June 13th. Female deejay Spice is also billed for this show.
Vegas will return to the island on Monday June 15th to shoot the Clearance Riddim medley video for producer Frass where his single, We Will Never, is one of the radio hit songs on the riddim which also
features the likes of Mavado and Bounty Killer.
He will then jet off to Trinidad to perform at the Sting Nightclub on Jun 20 2009 in the town of San Fernando. The following weekend, he will be at the Arnos Vale Sporting Complex in St. Vincent on June 27th. He returns to New York to perform on July 1 at the Denim Lounge in Brooklyn.
Mr. Vegas will be heading off on his European tour on July 13th where he will wind through countries such as France, Italy, Belgium, Spain and Germany

It could easily have been Elephant Man on parade inside the the Giants Stadium in New Jersey, at the annual Hot 97 Summer Jam held on June 7.
It was 12 minutes of high, irrepressible energy, teasing punch lines, and riveting dance moves as Ele paraded his dancing skills and his lyrical prowess to a wide cross section of fans inside the stadium.
A colourful Elephant Man entered centrestage at about 7:30 pm, right after the fellow dancehall act, Mavado, made his exit. He opened his set with one of his many hit tunes that have locked the place, Bad Man Forward and, not surprisingly, had the Giants Stadium rocking. Trying to get in as much as possible within the time allotted, the Energy God touched on the chorus of hit songs such as Gully Creeper, Jook Gal, and Sweep and left the dancehall loving crowd wanting more.
And, of course, he left them with Nuh Linga on their minds as he used this anthem, complete with dance moves, to close his set.
Among the other international acts who performed on Hot 97 Summer Jam were Mary J. Blige, T-Pain, The Dream — who performed after Ele — Young Jeezy, JadaKiss, Jim Jones and Juelz Santana.
Elephant Man is one of the big name acts confirmed to perform at Reggae Sumfest Dancehall Night in Montego Bay on Thursday July 23.
